The objectives of AMM, although organic and subject to revision, are currently threefold: - To initiate and sponsor projects and activities in cities across United States through urban community development, public service, and the support of arts and humanities. - To encourage and support relevant, organic, and holistic communities that focus on the needs of urban people from diverse viewpoints and faith perspectives. - To enhance the spiritual life in urban centers by exemplifying acceptance, inclusiveness, freedom of expression and thought, individuality, compassion, diversity, and hope, and to do so in a way that honors God. AMM is both an externally- (the “world”) and internally- (the “congregation”) focused organization. Despite the fact that we live in a technologically “connected” society, many New Yorkers and urban dwellers in North America feel they have no place to meaningfully connect with their neighbors. Unfortunately most modern businesses and churches have a difficult time creating these much-needed “sacred spaces” where New Yorkers can effectively connect. Ideally AMM's activities not only create an environment for growth within the individual projects (and communities) we invest in, but also have a positive impact on all religious life in the city. The newest project that AMM has committed to support is a particularly good example of this focus and motivation. Faith House Manhattan is an early-stage initiative to bring progressive Jews, Christians, Muslims, and spiritual seekers of no formal faith together in a truly interfaith community for the good of the world. Our “Projects” page nearby contains more details on this exciting concept that is fast becoming reality. |
